The USSSA-Teso Zone Ball Games II officially kicked off on June 27, 2026, in Kaberamaido District, but the event began on a low note due to limited participation from member districts.
Despite the zone comprising ten districts, only a handful managed to present teams for the athletics competitions held on the opening day.
According to John Robert Ossu, Chairperson of the USSSA-Teso Zone, only seven districts submitted teams—and even then, participation was inconsistent.
“Katakwi District was represented by just one school, Katakwi High School,” Ossu noted. “Had they not shown up, Katakwi would have been disqualified from this year’s championship.”
Kapelebyong and Serere were also highlighted as districts with particularly low representation.
“I must admit, district participation this year has been very poor,” Ossu said. “Some districts failed to present athletics teams, while others didn’t submit teams for any of the other sports disciplines.”

He attributed the low turnout in part to the ongoing industrial action by teachers of arts and humanities, which he said has significantly impacted school sports activities.
While athletics events were held on the first day, the coming days will feature a variety of other disciplines under Ball Games II. These include handball, volleyball, netball, football (U16 and U14), dance sport, and mind games such as chess.
Kaberamaido Secondary School and St. Thomas Girls Secondary School are serving as the host institutions for this year’s zonal competitions.
