National Basketball League playoffs
Today at Lugogo: Best-of-five semis
Game 1
Men: Oilers v Rezlife
The City Oilers have undergone enormous change over the last three campaigns, culminating in their first loss in the National Basketball League (NBL) Finals last season.
Equally subject to enormous transformation over the same period, albeit of a more positive kind, the Rezlife Saints are celebrating their maiden appearance in the playoff semis after winning their quarterfinal series against Sommet 2-1.
The two victories over Sommet were the first in the postseason for Rezlife, who enjoyed a record-setting regular season in which they picked at least one victory against every opponent.
When the two sides meet today in Game 1 of their best-of-five semifinal series, the collision between Rezlife’s historic run and the Oilers' quest to reclaim the NBL title promises a much better contest than Game 1 of the Namuwoingo Blazers–UCU Canons two days ago.
As noted earlier, the two sides split their regular season meetings, with the sensational Edrine Ekau exploding for a game-high 25 in Rezlife’s first-round win over the record champions. Andrew Tendo’s Oilers got their revenge in the second leg and will be confident of securing the opening victory after adding more ammunition ahead of the postseason.
Those signings obviously signify that for the Oilers, it is championship or bust. The Saints, on the other hand, have something of a free hit in the series against the Oilers—anything they get is a bonus.
