Namuwongo and Oilers sail through to semis

Nyembo Fataki grabbed a game-high 16 points, James Okello and Innocent Ochera added 14 and 13 as the Namuwongo Blazers secured a safe passage to the semifinals of the National Basketball League playoffs with a 73-62 win over the JT Jaguars yesterday at Abja Park.

 

The win sealed a 2-0 series win for Namuwongo, who will face either the UCU Canons or Victoria Crocs in the semifinals. Those two are currently tied 1-1.

 

The Blazers were expectedly untested by the Jaguars, who have endured a forgettable season after an eye-catching 2025.

 

The Jaguars were led by Peter Sifuma, who grabbed 13 points and 11 boards, with Elijah Adakun adding 12 points.

 

Namuwongo look sure to reach the NBL Finals again, where another reunion with the City Oilers is certain.

 

The Oilers also reached the semifinals yesterday, defeating the KCCA Panthers 77-61 in Game 2 of their best-of-three quarterfinal series at Lugogo. Joel Lukoji scored a game-high 14 for the Oilers, who had four others finish with double figures.

 

Benjamin Kawumi and Patrick Rambert nailed 12 points apiece for the record champions, with Landry Ndikumna and Rogers Dauna contributing 11 points each.

 

Oscar Byomuhangi led the Panthers with 11 points, who have reached the playoffs for the last five seasons without going beyond the semis.

 

Sommet and Rezlife are both one win away from a place in the semis after the latter tied the best-of-three series yesterday with an 84-67 victory in Game 2 at Lubowa.

 

Peter Cheng sank a team-high 24 points, Dieu Kuol contributed 21, and Paul Kikomba added 11 for Sommet, while Edrin Ekau and Hon Kwany sank a game-high 25 and 16 points respectively for Rezlife.
