The residents of Kalama, Kikonge in Mpigi district have urged the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) to organise a rally in their area.

Local leaders led by Hajji Tamale Musoke appealed after a successful Enduro championship held in the area on Sunday, May 19, that saw Yasin Semakula emerge as the winner.

“We want to thank you for bringing motorbikes into our area, but we kindly request you to also bring motor cars. We have good roads and enough land,” Musoke said.

Semakula who has enjoyed back-to-back victory in the national Enduro events has set his target on winning the national championship.

Semakula, who won the first round in Ssisa, Wakiso district, beat stiff opposition from national team captain Scott Nicholson and Leon Steyn to win the second round held in Kalama, Kikonge, Mpigi district on Sunday.

“I am excited to win again. This means that I can win the national championships and I am going to train harder so that I can win this year’s championship,” Semakula noted.

Semakula rode 20 laps in two hours, and 45.52 minutes to beat Nicholson, and finished second after riding 19 laps in two hours, 49.42 minutes. Leon Steyn (15 laps) in 2:46:09 came third.

They competed for three hours nonstop on the 4.5km challenging course that went through a swamp, mountain, and forest.

Semakula has now won two out of the five national championship events and consistency in the remaining events by finishing on the podium will hand him the national championship crown.

In the junior class 1 category Jonathan Katende, Filbert Muwonge, and Adam Kabuye were wheel-to-wheel racing 24 laps each in three hours on a 2.8km course but Katende had a better time to win the class.

Muwonge came second and Kabuye finished third.

In the girls’ category, Jamairah Makumbi emerged victorious with Abigail Katende and Agness Nakanwagi winning the silver and bronze respectively.

Arthur Blick Jr, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda deputy vice president in charge of motorcycling impressed by the improved quality of racers and organisation.

He urged all organising clubs to emulate Uganda Motocross Club (UMX) and organise better events.

Meanwhile, residents of the area urged FMU to organise rally cars competitions.
