The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has postponed the start of the National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs to July 10, 2026, citing a congested schedule arising from several international commitments involving Uganda's national basketball teams.
The playoffs had initially been set for Wednesday, June 17, following the conclusion of the regular season last Sunday.
However, the governing body deemed it necessary to adjust the calendar to allow national team players and technical staff adequate time to focus on upcoming continental competitions.
Uganda's senior men's national basketball team, the Silverbacks, is currently preparing for the second window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, which will take place in Luanda, Angola, from July 2 to 5. The team faces a crucial challenge as it seeks to revive its qualification campaign after a difficult start in the opening round.
Meanwhile, the women's national team, the Gazelles, is representing Uganda in the FIBA Women's Series in France. The competition, which runs from June 16 to July 4, will feature events in Orléans, Poitiers, and Marseille, providing the Ugandan side with valuable international exposure against some of the world's top teams.
In addition, Uganda's Under-23 men's and women's teams are set to compete in the FIBA U23 Nations League, scheduled for July 1 to 7 in Kenya. The tournament presents another important opportunity for the country's emerging basketball talent to gain experience on the international stage.
