Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa’s David Plenderleith and Jinja Club’s Catherine Pavie will be eager to defend their titles when the Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Seniors Championship tees off at Kitante on Friday.
Both golfers were the toast of the seniors’ event at last year’s event held at the tough Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club course, where rounds of 167 and 192 over 36 holes helped them top their respective categories.
Pavie has already had a 'shootout' on the much-friendlier course during the Uganda Ladies Open, and her two rounds must have offered her the opportunity to test the conditions of the course ahead of the two-day seniors’ event for golfers aged 55 and above.
Plederleith will be up against a tough field that includes John Muchiri, Tony Kisadha, Stephen Katwiremu, Joseph Bagabo, John Katto, John Waigo, Onyango Matata, among others, while Pavie will face off against the likes of Katy Kabenge, Jeninah Nasimolo, Rose Azuba, Edrae Kagombe, Regina Ddamulira, Jenniffer Opio, and Grace Obua, who are all too familiar with the Kitante course and are regular podium finishers in the different events held there.
Ahead of the event, Uganda Senior Golfing Association (USGA) chairman David Baraka thanked all the sponsors behind the Uganda Open 2026.
“Special mention goes to Uganda Breweries, through their John Walker brand, who have always supported the tournament as well as the Annual Seniors Open. Your support has been a great encouragement to the golfers, especially the senior category, to continue playing the game and enjoy the products at hole 19,” Baraka stated.
The seniors' event attracts participants in different categories, including gold (75 years and above), silver (65-74), and bronze (55-64), while the ladies' gold category attracts those over 65 years, as well as silver (55-64).
