Cricket Uganda to initiate quest for next head coach

Musali hopes the new coach “will take the team to the next level”, which in short means doing “what Abhay Sharma (his predecessor) failed” to do.

Cricket governing body Cricket Uganda is looking for the next head coach of the Cricket Cranes, and the quest will be made official in the coming days.

“The (job) advert should be out very soon,” Cricket Uganda honorary secretary Denis Musali told New Vision Sport on Wednesday (January 21). “The new coach should be here by March 1.”

Musali hopes the new coach “will take the team to the next level”, which in short means doing “what Abhay Sharma (his predecessor) failed” to do.

In real terms, the next level starts with taking Uganda out of the Cricket World Cup Challenge League B, a task simplified by the fact that the Cricket Cranes are top of the table, two points ahead of second-placed Italy and a further four ahead of Hong Kong.
Moreover, two teams qualify from the group.

That event is undoubtedly top of the agenda, which will also feature the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier, due in Nigeria in April.

There will also be tours to Namibia and Zimbabwe in March and May, respectively.

The profile of the next Cricket Cranes coach will be of critical importance, because while the team needs an astute tactician with the ability to scheme for big opponents, the team's raft of young players also requires someone with a knack for talent development.
