Uganda v Hong Kong 10am

Uganda was punished on the first day of the ICC Challenge League B after Jersey defeated them by 62 runs at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Jersey Batasman Nick Greenwood scored 80 runs as they raced to 250/6 in 50 overs. The air in Lugogo was tinged with tension after the wickets did not tumble in the morning session.

Jersey remained resolute and finished their overs in style.

Uganda on the other hand made errors as they won the toss and elected to field. The morning session was characterized by dropped catches and near misses for some in the Cricket Cranes.

Those missed opportunities in the power play gave Jersey a new lease on life and that almost pushed them to the defendable 250. It took a lot of ingenuity from captain Brian Masaba to wrestle back the match.

Uganda innings started out shaky but Ronak Patel and Simon Ssesazi had control until the deck of cards fell.

The going got tough and the team failed to rise above the spin in the Jersey setup.

Juma Miyaji and Cosmas Kyewuta showed a lot of paces that they used against Jersey. On Monday, they take on Hong Kong as they hope they can regroup.

“Jersey was the better team on the day. A couple of guys did well for us like Simon Ssesazi(50) Ronak Patel(64) and I also think the bowlers also did well,” said Brian Masaba.

They will need to cut out the errors and just prepare to grind in the next four matches.
