Bright future for motocross, says Evas Orland

The youngsters proved that the future of motocross is bright.

They exhibited high-quality racing in the final round of the MAU Challenge held at the Uganda Motocross Arena in Busiika, Luwero district.

According to the MAU vice-president Evas Orland, strengthening structures and building capacity is their main target in the 2022 season.

Evas noted this on Sunday after the six motocross challenge that saw a great improvement in quality and competition.

“We have many new riders, officials, and rider parents that need to be knowledgeable about the rules as we prepare them for international engagements. So, we are going to focus on training before our next season,” Evas said.

“Even racers need to understand the regulations to perform better at all stages that is why they are part of this capacity building trainings.” 

Secretary Julius Bukenya added that they have ended the calendar, and preparations for next year will start immediately.

“We have over 70 racers, and next year, expect bigger and better organised events, but before that, we shall organise annual awards to declare the champions of the season,” Bukenya added.

Meanwhile, in the races held on Sunday, Telvin Jjunju was the most improved racer having joined the MX125 class this year and managed a podium finish in the previous two consecutive events.

Jjunju finished third over behind winner Alon Orland and second Wazir Omar in a tightly contested race.

In the 50cc senior class, Jude Kyle Musedde, Noel Sekamwa, and Ashina Mbabazi finished first, second, and third respectively while Ethan Musedde, Mahad Lukwago, and Eli Mitima finished on the podium in the 50cc junior class.

In the 65 cc class, Larry Sekamwa was on fire, beating stiff competition from Ramathan Mubiru and Ashraf Mbabazi junior, who came second and respectively.

 

Jeremiah Mawanda was also on form, beating traditional winners Gift Sebuguzi, Milton Akaki, and Waleed Omar, while Fortune Sentamu sealed his MX2 class title after beating Ali Omar Yasser, who showed great improvement on the track.

Asaf Natan won the MX1 class while Barak Orland continue to dominate the veterans’ class.
