Uganda Gazelles head coach Alberto Antuna has named the final team of 12 that will compete at this year’s FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

Having joined the team on Thursday, the Spaniard named the team after Saturday’s training session at Africa Bible University in Lubowa.

Flavia Oketcho will lead the Gazelles at the tournament where she will be making her second appearance.

Oketcho, the only member of the team that played at the 2015 tournament in Cameroon, is joined by four other home-based players on the roster.

Just like Oketcho, the other four – Evelyn Nakiyingi, Ritah Imanishimwe, Brenda Ekon and Hope Akello – turnout for last year’s National Basketball League losing finalists, JKL Lady Dolphins.

Jannon Otto who trained for the first time on Saturday, is also on the team, while US-based Claire Lamunu is yet to join.

Victoria Mukisa who suffered an injury in the team’s first training session is the only foreign-based player not on the final team.

Jane Asinde, Lydia Babirye, Melissa Akullu, Maria Najjuma and Priscilla Abby have all made the final roster.

Sarah Ageno is the most significant omission from the team.

The team now enters residential training before its departure for Kigali, Rwanda, on August 26.

The Gazelles are in Group C alongside Senegal and Mali.

Uganda Gazelles: Flavia Oketcho, Jannon Otto, Hope Akello, Lydia Babirye, Rita Imanishimwe, Evelyn Nakiyingi, Maria Najjuma, Melissa Akullu, Brenda Ekone, Jane Asinde, Claire Lamunu, Priscilla Abby.
