Ugandan basketball star Jane Asinde has parted ways with Spanish club Ensino Lugo CB.

The 25-year-old forward, who also captains the Uganda Gazelles, has officially ended her stint with the team. The club confirmed her departure via their social media platforms, expressing gratitude for her contributions.

“Having helped us with the final stretch of the season, Jane Asinde will no longer be with us,” the club's statement read. “We are grateful for her services and wish her the very best going forward.”

Although the statement didn’t detail the nature of her departure, it suggests that the separation was amicable, with no indication of tension between the two parties.

Asinde’s time in Spain was highlighted by solid performances, and it appears both she and the club mutually agreed on the next step in her career.

Now back in Uganda, Asinde is reconnecting with the local basketball community. She is currently serving as a guest coach for the iHoops Basketball Holiday Program at Fast Sports’ indoor court—shifting focus from her professional career to youth development.

The move marks a temporary change of pace for the talented forward, who has spent the past few years showcasing her skills in both the European and Chinese leagues.

Asinde joined Ensino Lugo CB in February 2025, marking her debut in the Spanish league following a successful stint with Henan Phoenix in China. Her transfer to Spain was considered a step up in her professional journey, especially after her prominent role with the Uganda Gazelles, whom she led to the FIBA AfroBasket Zone V title.

Before making the leap to Europe, Asinde was a pivotal figure for the JKL Lady Dolphins, helping them clinch their fourth National Women’s Basketball Championship title in the NBL playoffs.

Known for her consistent performances and leadership, Asinde quickly rose to prominence as one of Uganda’s premier basketball talents, catching the attention of international scouts.

Her basketball journey began in Uganda, where she was introduced to the sport at Budo Secondary School. Her natural talent soon earned her a place with the Magic Stormers in the Women’s National Basketball League.

Internationally, Asinde has represented Uganda in various FIBA competitions, including the 2018 FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup, further solidifying her reputation on the global stage.

Her rapid rise saw her move to the United States in 2019, becoming only the third Ugandan female basketball player to compete in an American college program. She began at Grayson College in Texas and later transferred to Wichita State University, where she excelled.

Asinde was named a WBCA NJCAA First Team All-American following an outstanding sophomore season, which attracted further interest from top programs, including the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
