Sebei urges Gen Kainerugaba to take interest in 2031 presidency

Voters and leaders in the Sebei sub-region have urged the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to take keen interest in contesting for the presidency in 2031.
The call was made on Saturday (September 26) during a celebration at Boma Grounds in Kapchorwa Municipality, which drew supporters from Bukwo, Kween and Kapchorwa districts.
"The only way we must move forward is having a forethought plan on who leads us when the time comes and in this case, I personally think Gen. Muhoozi is that person," said Phiona Chemutai, a voter.
Ali Chebures, another voter, said those close to Gen. Muhoozi should encourage him to treat the people's call seriously. "Encourage him to take our call seriously for the good of the future and safety for what has been achieved so far," he said.
Former Kween Woman MP Emma Rose Cherukut said the region would back him through the ballot if he accepts the call.
"Should he accept our civilian command, we shall do the rest through the secret ballot," Cherukut said.
Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Fadil Twalla, said the CDF, who is also the PLU chairman, is willing to listen to the voice of the people.
"The voice of the people is the voice of God, and our chairman is willing to listen," Twalla said, commending Sebei for uniting around the succession debate.

Kapchorwa Municipality MP Patrick Kitiyo Salimo said the people of Sebei would exercise their legal right to choose a preferred leader.
"Recalling our political history that has oftentimes been characterised by chaos and bloodshed, Muhoozi taking over peacefully from President Museveni would open a new chapter in our political existence as Uganda," Salimo said.
Brian Kapyagon of Kongasis County in Bukwo lauded the civic awareness, saying it would contribute to Uganda's political success.
The function was led by Twalla, Capt. Frank Mwesigye, Cherukut and former athlete Moses Kipsiro, and attended by several current and former MPs, including Patrick Wakida of Kabweri County in Kibuku District, RDCs from Sebei and neighbouring sub-regions, and Ugandan athletes.
