EC Gulu sets Friday for fresh LC1 polls in four affected cells

The Electoral Commission (EC) in Gulu City has set Friday, 31 July, for fresh Local Council One (LC1) elections in four cells where the earlier polls either failed to take place or were not completed.
Out of the 127 cells in Gulu City, four were affected. These are Green Valley Cell in Kanyagoya A Ward, Goans Quarter in Kasubi Ward, Bardege-Layibi Division, Forest Cell in Pece Prison, and Pudyek Cell in Pawel Ward, Laroo-Pece Division.

"The election in Green Valley was not completed because complaints had already been raised about some of the candidates and allegations that voters had been ferried in from other cells like Kanyagoya. We shall therefore conduct a fresh registration of voters before holding the election on Friday. In the other three cells, the elections were marred by chaos, so fresh elections will be conducted this Friday." Jjuuko disclosed.
In Green Valley Cell, two candidates are vying for the position, one representing the NRM and the other running as an independent. In Goans Quarter, four candidates are contesting for the LC1 chairperson position, including one from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and three independents.
In Pudyek Cell, six candidates are vying for the LC1 chairperson position, including one from the Democratic Party (DP), one from the NRM, and four independents. Forest Cell has seven candidates contesting for the seat, one representing the People's Front for Freedom (PFF), one from the NRM, and five independents.
