Police in Buhweju district are investigating the suspected murder of a 35-year-old woman who was found strangled in her home.

The deceased, Olivia Kyogabirwe, a resident of Enkombe trading centre, was discovered dead on September 2, 2025, by her husband.

According to Apollo Tayebwa, spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, Kyogabirwe’s body was discovered at around 7 a.m. by her husband, Nicholas Kabatungye, who had returned from gold mining.

“He found her lying lifeless on the floor inside their house,” Tayebwa said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that family disputes related to witchcraft may have played a role in the killing.

Police have since arrested a suspect, identified as Kenneth Turinawe, 24, of Ruzinga, Kyahenda sub-county, to assist in investigations.

The body was taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Tayebwa said police managed the scene in line with professional standards and are pursuing additional leads.

“We strongly appeal to the public to shun violence and lawlessness in resolving disputes. Such acts are criminal and punishable by law,” Tayebwa said.

The case has unsettled residents of Kyahenda sub-county, where accusations of witchcraft and family conflicts are reported to be common. Police say investigations are ongoing and more details will be provided once available.
