Police in Madi-Okollo district have recovered a baby allegedly stolen by a maid from her employer in Kabalagala, Kampala.

The 21-year-old suspect, identified as Shamira Munguleni, was arrested after allegedly fleeing with the child to the West Nile sub-region.

The operation to trace the suspect was launched after the West Nile regional police commander, Latif Zaake, received intelligence that a maid from the region had disappeared with her employer's baby.

Suspecting that she was heading to her home district of Madi-Okollo, Zaake alerted the district police commander (DPC), who coordinated with the officer in charge of Rhino Camp Police Station to launch a search.

Working with local leaders from Ogoko and Rhino Camp sub-counties, police successfully located the suspect.

Munguleni was found with the infant at her aunt's residence in Olidiova cell, Awuva ward, within Rhino Camp town council.

The suspect and the recovered baby were on Saturday being held at Rhino Camp Police Station as arrangements were made to reunite the child with its parents.

A case of child trafficking was registered at Kabalagala Police Station in Kampala as investigations continued.
