Vision Group to support Kisubi Brothers’ Centennial fundraising drive

The Brothers of Christian Instruction, locally referred to as the Brothers of Kisubi, have launched a fundraising campaign aimed at generating sh6billion for the construction of a befitting house for the elderly and sick members of their religious institute.
The proposed house, to be constructed at Mount St. Teresa Kisubi (the institute’s headquarters on Entebbe Road, in Wakiso district), will serve as the monument for the 100th anniversary of the presence and Christian educational ministry of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Uganda. The climax of the centennial celebration is due to take place at Mount St Teresa Kisubi on September 5, 2026.
This was revealed by Bro. John Bosco Ssenkabirwa, the Chairman of the Central Organising Committee of the Brothers’ centennial celebration, during his solidarity visit to Vision Group Head Office in Kampala on Wednesday, July 22 (2026).
During the visit, Ssenkabirwa, who was in the company of Edwin Mayanja (an old student of the Brothers), held cordial discussions with the Editor-in-Chief of Vision Group, Sidney Miria Babanga and some top editors and managers of the media house’s affiliate newspapers, Radio and TV stations.
Their discussion basically focused on the Brothers’ century-long presence and Christian education ministry in Uganda, the forthcoming centennial celebration, the fundraising drive for the centennial monument and the necessity for the Brothers to work in partnership with Vision Group to raise public awareness of the Brothers’ impactful educational involvement, centennial fundraising drive and final celebration.
Vision Group Editor-In-Chief Miria Babanga assured Bro. Ssenkabirwa of the company’s goodwill and readiness for mutual cooperation with the Kisubi Brothers.
“We are involved in many projects that make a difference in the life of Ugandans. We are actually very strong in education. So, we shall work together,” Babanga said.
The Editor of Bukedde Newspaper, Michael Ssebowa Mukasa said a deliberate partnership between Vision Group and the Brothers was long overdue.
Bro. Ssenkabirwa thanked the EIC Miria Babanga and his team for their goodwill and willingness to work with the Brothers to raise public awareness of the educational service and centennial celebration of the Brothers and pledged total cooperation. He further Vision Group t for its pro-people programmes/projects that have transformed many individuals and communities in the country.
About the Brothers of Christian instruction
The Brothers of Christian Instruction (aka the Brothers of Kisubi) are an international Catholic religious institute, whose inclination is Christian education of children and youths. The congregation was founded by 2 French priests, Jean-Marie de la Mennais and Gabriel Deshayes, in 1819.
The Brothers came to Uganda on August 4, 1926. They were invited by Bishop John Forbes of the missionary society of the White Fathers (Missionaries of Africa), who wanted them to help provide quality Christian education, to take charge of the administration and teaching in Catholic schools, and to train young people academically, morally and spiritually.
The first 4 Brothers to arrive, from Canada, were Bro. Charles Jules Poitras, Bro. Joachim Leon, Bro Eugene Paquette, and Bro. Stanislaus Taileffer. On arrival, they took over administration of St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK). From there, they expanded their educational mission across Uganda.” They later expanded their mission across the country.
Today they manage/operate about 30 educational institutions, including St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), St. Henry’s College Kitovu (SHACK), Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga), Bishop Comboni College Lira, St. Edward’s SS Bukuumi, St. Charles Lwanga SS Kasasa, Mugwanya Preparatory School Kabojja, St. Savio Junior School Kisubi, Bishop Comboni College Kambuga, La Mennais SS Kyotera, St. Leo’s College Kyegobe, Nebbi Town School, and the University of Kisubi (UniK), just to name a few.
The Brothers are currently preparing to celebrate 100 years of their service in Uganda under the theme: We remember, we celebrate, we believe. The grand climax of the celebration will be at Mount St. Teresa Kisubi (the Brothers’ Headquarters) on September 5, 2026.
