The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has called for vigilance amongst Ugandans as they continue to pursue the Allied Defence Forces rebels in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In a statement dated April 14, 2024, the defence public information officer Felix Kulayigye said the joint forces in Eastern DRC (the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and UPDF) are committed to a peaceful and secure Uganda and Eastern DRC.

“As we endeavour to defeat the ADF inside Eastern DRC and secure our borders, we continue to urge citizens to exercise vigilance,” Kulayigye said while updating Ugandans on the status of the joint forces attack on ADF rebels.

He said the joint forces have recently hit ADF hard, scattering them into smaller groups that remain dangerous.

Five days ago, another ADF militant identified as Dr Musa was killed by a joint mobile squad force under the 83 battalion of the UPDF at Mugulumugulu near Tokomeka, 30km Northwest of Kainama.

Dr Musa, who is of Rwandan origin, at the time of his death, was operating closely with another notorious ADF commander, Muhammad Luminsa.

According to Maj. Bilal Katamba, the public information officer UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa, the joint forces recovered one sub machine gun (SMG) and one radio (walkie-talkie).

He revealed that ADF has intensified the implanting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). However, the joint forces’ technical explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams handled the IED threats.

The joint forces continue to aggressively pursue the ADF remnants in their scattered hideouts in all four sectors of the operation.
