Uganda, UK discuss regional peace and security

Uganda and the United Kingdom representatives have held discussions focused on efforts to foster peace and security within the region amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics.

Geopolitical dynamics refer to political activity as influenced by the physical features of a country or area, or with the study of the way a country's size or position.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Charge of Regional Affairs, John Mulimba, hosted a diplomatic engagement with Joe Dashley, Political Counsellor of the British High Commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.

Both parties had constructive dialogue aimed at addressing pressing regional challenges and advancing collaborative strategies for sustainable peace.

Recognizing the interconnected nature of global security, discussions centered on comprehensive approaches to conflict resolution, preventive diplomacy, and collective security measures.

Emphasizing the importance of multilateral cooperation, the two reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace-building efforts and mitigating potential threats to regional stability.

Minister Mulimba said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains steadfast in its commitment to diplomatic initiatives that promote peace and security and looks forward to continued collaboration with international partners in pursuit of these noble objectives.

Uganda hailed on regional peace

Various leaders have hailed Uganda’s contribution to dealing with security challenges in the region.

Uganda hosts the UN’s regional service centre, and a peace operations support hub in Entebbe, and the facilities provide logistics and administrative support to UN missions in Africa.

Peacekeeping training courses for missions and related offices in the region are held in Uganda.

Kampala has also been instrumental in the development of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) and African Union-affiliated conflict management initiatives.

Ugandan military deployments and activities, including peacekeeping, are enshrined in the Ugandan People’s Defense Force (UPDF) Act of 2005.
