The Police in Kaberamaido district is hunting for unknown people who lynched two people in Aperkira sub-county.

Kaberamaido district criminal investigations officer, Sam Olaki, on Wednesday identified the victims as Anthony Aseu, 30, a resident of Alere village, Ogwolo sub-county, and Lawrence Ameru, 17, a resident of Bululu sub-county, both in Kalaki district.

Olaki said Aseu and Ameru met their death after they were suspected to have stolen bulls belonging to Simon Oleja, 47, a resident of Arongo village, Bululu sub-county, who said he had been looking for his animals for three days in vain.

As a way of stemming the rampant cattle theft in the district, Kaberamaido LC5 chairperson Victor Rex Ekesu recently passed a directive that everyone moving with an animal should have documents to show the details about them.

However, Police investigations show that Aseu and Ameru were moving with the animals without movement permits.

Olaki said that when Aperkira GISO James Epalu Enyuru alerted the Police that suspected cattle thieves had been arrested and were being attacked by the residents, they immediately responded.

However, the suspects succumbed to the injuries before they were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Olaki said his team visited the scene of the crime and that the two bodies were taken to Kaberamaido Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

A case of murder by mob was registered at Kaberamaido Central Police Station with reference number KDM CRB 336/2022.

Olaki, who condemned mob justice, said it is better when suspects are handed over to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution.

He also revealed that Ameru was in October this year set free by a court over allegations of cattle theft because he was a juvenile.
