Two police officers are facing charges after two rape suspects in Obongi escaped from custody at 6:50am while being escorted to the latrine.
Security authorities describe the incident as a serious breach of duty.
Collins Asea, Police Spokesperson for North West Nile Region, on Tuesday, confirmed that Obongi Central Police Station territorial police apprehended two of their own officers in connection with the escape of two suspects from police custody
On the run are: Juma Rasual, charged with attempted rape under SD Reference 02/21/03/2026, and Ibrahim Wongita, charged with rape under SD Reference 14/21/03/2026.
The two officers on duty at the time have since been charged alongside the suspects.
Asea appealed directly to the public to assist in the manhunt.
"We urge the local community to assist us by reporting any information related to the whereabouts of the suspects, especially the two individuals charged with rape, to the nearest police station," he said.
