NAPAK - Residents of Kangole town council, Napak district, are wrestling in grief following the double murder of a newly appointed bursar of Napak Seed Secondary School, Johnson Saidi Lokwi, and an elderly woman only identified as Logir.

Lokwi, who was recruited as the school bursar last month, bagged a bachelor’s degree at Kyambogo in February last year.

The separate incidents occurred on March 21 and 22, 2026, at Kangole Middle Village, Lopida ward, Kangole town council, at around 9.00pm.

Joseph Loduk Lokabale, the LC3 Kangole town council, when contacted, confirmed the tragic murders but declined to provide details.

He, however, referred the matter to other leaders, saying he was not ready to give a comment on the incident.

The village chairperson, Kangole Middle, Ismail Lojore, narrated that the murders flowed from a card game between the deceased (Lokwi) and Zachariah Mudong.
With sh1, 000 at stake, a fight ensued after Mudong lost the game.

“The two were separated shortly as if the matter had ended,” he stated. It is reported that Mudong, still angered by his loss, walked away but waylaid Lokwi in the cover of darkness, hitting him with a piece of wood at the back of his neck, leaving him for dead.

On Monday, Lokwi was pronounced dead at Matany Hospital, where he had been rushed for medical attention.

Local authorities narrated that on learning about Lokwi's death, the bereaved family decided to avenge the death.

Several of them, on Sunday afternoon, raided  Mudong’s home, only to find the sole mother in the compound.

The assailants, armed with sharp knives and pangas, hacked and left her lying in a pool of blood before they disappeared into the neighbouring Omani river valley. It is believed that she died instantly.

“The yet-to-be-identified killers abandoned the blood-stained knife at the scene. Logir was buried on March 23, 2026, at her home in Kangole Middle Village.

Lokwi, who is survived by two siblings and a wife, will be laid to rest at the Kangole Church of Uganda compound.

Mike Longole, the police public relations officer for Karamoja, denied knowledge of the double tragedy.

He, however, referred the reporter to the district police commander Wilfred Waigo, who could not pick up repeated calls.
