BUSIA - Police in Busia district are holding two men in connection with the alleged theft and slaughter of eight goats at Masafu Government Prisons Barracks.

The incident reportedly occurred during the night of August 15, 2026, at an unknown time.

The goats, valued at about sh1.8m, belonged to Sgt. Raimon Afeku, a prison warder attached to Masafu Government Prisons.

Police have arrested Daniel Oundo Akule and another, only identified as Juma in connection with the incident, while several other suspects remain at large.

According to police, the suspects allegedly entered the goat structure at the prison barracks, opened the door and slaughtered all eight goats before taking away the carcasses.

Investigators suspect that the thieves may have received assistance from an insider.
The case was registered at Masafu Town Council Police Station under reference numbers SD 04/16/08/2026 and CRB 043/2026.

A team of detectives from Busia Central Police Station, officers from Masafu Town Council Police Station and a Police Canine Unit visited the scene as part of the investigations.

Police said a sniffer dog picked up a human scent from the scene and tracked it to a butcher's premises that had reportedly stopped operating in February this year.
Investigators also reportedly discovered fresh blood stains at the entrance and behind the butcher's premises.

Police are investigating allegations that the premises, despite appearing closed during the day, could be operating at night.

Information obtained by investigators indicates that Juma,  who is involved in roasting meat, was allegedly among the last people to leave the premises during the night, while Akule reportedly controls the butcher's premises.

Police said other individuals believed to be linked to the operation, only identified as Sanya and Rajab, are still at large.

The two arrested suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, while detectives pursue the other suspects.

Police said inquiries are still ongoing and further developments will be communicated.
