MUKONO - A three-and-a-half-year-old girl has died by electrocution — reportedly due to parental neglect — in the township of Kyetume in Mukono district.
Police said the incident happened at around midday on Saturday (October 26), with the area Police now investigating the death of Maclean Nalwadda.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said she is believed to have come into contact with exposed electrical wiring.
He urged parents and guardians to be vigilant in maintaining safe living environments to prevent avoidable tragedies like this.
Electrical fire
Elsewhere, also on Saturday, a fire suspected to have been caused by a short circuit broke out just before 3pm in a residential house in Mutungo Zone III, Nakawa division.
The fire caused extensive property damage.
Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, which was documented at Mutungo Police Post and is now being investigated.
The fire brigade managed to extinguish the blaze, preventing any casualties.
The cause of the fire is not known yet.

Another fire incident was reported the same day in a different part of Nakawa division.
The second fire happened at a 10-room residential and commercial property owned by retired police officer Denis Anywar in Banda Zone A.
The fire, suspected to be arson, broke out at around 6:30pm.
It caused damage to furniture and electronics before being contained, Police, who are also investigating the incident, said.
It was recorded at Police under Ref SD 42/26/10/2024.
