Three held over impersonating police, targeting foreigners

WAKISO - Police in Entebbe have arrested three men accused of impersonating police officers and targeting foreign nationals for extortion and robbery.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after allegedly entering an apartment in Vivision A, Entebbe Municipality, and approaching a foreign investor.
Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the suspects, who were dressed in civilian clothes, allegedly introduced themselves as police officers on duty and demanded the investor's passport and an unspecified amount of money.

Police identified the suspects as John Pius Osire, Pius Girengero and Julius Emogu.
Kituuma said a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of two warrant cards, which are being examined as part of investigations.
“The three suspects are currently in our custody in Entebbe as investigations continue,” he said.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to at least two earlier incidents involving foreign nationals in Entebbe.
Police allege that about two weeks ago, the group robbed tourists in Manyago, while a week later they allegedly robbed Indian nationals in Kitooro.
“They reportedly used suspected forged security identification documents to impersonate officers on duty, gain the confidence of their victims and subsequently rob them,” he said.
Police are investigating whether the three suspects are part of a wider criminal network targeting foreigners in Entebbe.
Kituuma commended the Counter-Terrorism officers and the apartment staff for their vigilance and prompt response.
“The Uganda Police Force commends the vigilance and prompt response of the Counter-Terrorism officers, as well as the staff of the apartment, whose timely action led to the arrest of the suspects before further harm could occur,” he said.
Police have urged members of the public, particularly foreign nationals, to remain vigilant and report people who attempt to gain access to them by falsely claiming to be security officers.
Investigations into the suspects and their alleged links to the earlier incidents are ongoing.
