Soroti City set to roll out sh30 billion World Bank-Funded Infrastructure Project

Soroti City is preparing to implement the Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) programme, a five-year, World Bank-funded initiative aimed at transforming urban infrastructure and boosting economic opportunities.
The programme seeks to accelerate urban development through road upgrades and improved public infrastructure while creating more than 20,000 permanent jobs across participating cities. It builds on gains made under the previous Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) programme.
The Deputy City Clerk, Joseph Mwesigwa, said Soroti City has received sh30 billion under the Investment Project Financing (IPF) component for the first two years of implementation.

According to Mwesigwa, the funding will be used to upgrade 9.563 kilometres of roads across the city to improve connectivity and ease movement.
The roads earmarked for upgrading include Mayor's Garden Access Road and its link road, Egwau Road, Elangot Road, Emokor Road, Ipuruket Road, Oguli Road, Esabu Road, Harper Road, Okurut Close and its junction, Egunyu Road, Engalu Road, State Lodge Access Road, Emiru Road, Eniru Road, Bishop Avenue, and Bisina Road.
City authorities say the project is expected to improve transport infrastructure, stimulate business activity, create employment opportunities, and enhance service delivery for residents of Soroti City.
