Security cuts off access to Among’s residence

KAMPALA - A heavy security deployment involving counter terrorism officers and police operatives was mounted on Saturday around the residence of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among at MacKinnon Road in Nakasero, Kampala.

Although only a few operatives were stationed at the main gate of Among’s residence, the majority of the security personnel were deployed across the road surrounding the home.

The operation was led by Kampala North Regional Police Commander Moses Nanoka.

More than 15 vehicles, including Uganda Police branded pickups, vans and minibuses, were seen at the residence during the operation. Witnesses reported that several suitcases were loaded into a white police van before the vehicle was driven away.

Sources familiar with the operation described the deployment as highly tactical. At the entrance to the residence, three uniformed police officers were visibly positioned at the gate, while several plain-clothed operatives-maintained positions across the road monitoring the surroundings.

Among is being probed over allegations of corruption and money laundering.
Unconfirmed sources reported that President Yoweri Museveni ordered investigations into allegations of corruption and money laundering against Among.

This comes at a time when President Yoweri Museveni stated that there will be no more sleep and corruption in his new term.

On Friday, the Inspectorate of Government (IG) says it is processing a complaint seeking investigations into the wealth and assets of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, following a petition filed by a group of lawyers.

Inspector General of Government (IGG) Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala confirmed the development today, May 15, 2026, while addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala during the release of the outcomes of the April 2026 declaration of incomes, assets and liabilities by public officers.

A group of Kampala-based lawyers filed a complaint against Speaker Anita Among over her wealth declaration.

The petition was filed with the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), accusing her of allegedly breaching the Leadership Code Act through failure to declare or possible under-declaration of her wealth.

A police fire brigade is in place to aid in the search at Among's residence.

The complaint, dated May 13, 2026, and addressed to Batala, was lodged by six complainants identifying themselves as citizens and taxpayers acting under Section 21 of the Leadership Code Act.

In the petition, the complainants, who are led by Andrew Karamagi, a lawyer practising with Pan African Lawyers Union, argue that Section 4 of the Leadership Code Act requires leaders to declare their income, assets, and liabilities every two years during the month of March.

They contend that failure to comply attracts penalties including dismissal from office and forfeiture of undeclared assets.

Without divulging details of the complaint, Batala confirmed that the matter had formally been received by her office and was already undergoing the required administrative and legal procedures before investigations commence.
