Police in Mbale City have arrested a man and five women over alleged street prostitution along Alyada Street.

The six suspects were arrested by officers from Mbale Central Police Station following an incident in which one of them was allegedly found engaging in sexual intercourse in public.

Police said the suspects were allegedly soliciting and engaging in commercial sex activities along Alyada Street.

The suspects are being held at Mbale Central Police Station on charges of common nuisance under the Penal Code Act as investigations continue.

Police warned that they would intensify operations against people allegedly engaging in street prostitution in the area, citing concerns about the exposure of children to sexual activity and other conduct considered inappropriate in public spaces.

“Alyada Street is an area with schools, including pre-primary and primary institutions, and as police, we cannot condone such criminality in the city,” a statement from police said today (October 21).

Authorities said the operation was still ongoing and warned that further arrests would be made against those found engaging in similar activities.

Police did not disclose the identities of the suspects or provide further details. The suspects remain in custody as inquiries continue.
