Kampala Metropolitan Police are investigating an incident in which four people lost their lives after a nearby perimeter wall collapsed onto residential houses in Butto Zone Bweyogerere, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident occurred on Tuesday (October 20) at 6:30 am during a downpour.
Owoyesigyire said the deceased are: David Okoth, 25; Angella Inebe, 28; Lucy Alaba, 28; and a juvenile child, the son of Alaba.
He said the owner of the house (landlord), identified as Francis Ssenyoga, sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby health facility.
According to police, the heavy rainfall water flowed from the premises of Delux Company and exerted pressure on the company’s perimeter wall, causing it to collapse onto the two nearby residential houses.
“Police responded to the incident, recorded statements from some witnesses, and conveyed the four bodies to the KCCA City Mortuary at Mulago pending postmortem examinations,” Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire cautioned property owners, construction companies, and developers to ensure that they have adequate drainage systems and necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
