Police probe suspected arson as three die in Nansana house fire

WAKISO - Three people have died after a fire gutted a house in Nansana West 1A, Wakiso district, in the early hours of Monday, with Police investigating the incident as suspected arson.
The deceased have been identified as Bulali Isabirye, Annet Namulondo and Violet Nanyombi.
Speaking to journalists today (September 28), at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the bodies were burnt beyond recognition, while six survivors were evacuated from the scene and taken for medical attention.
Police and fire rescue personnel responded to the incident and extinguished the fire.
Kituuma said preliminary information from people at the scene raised suspicion that the fire was deliberately started.
He said investigators recovered several pieces of evidence from the scene, including writings, which are being examined.

“Let’s give our investigators time to unpack all the facts, and then we communicate much more later,” Kituuma said.

According to the 2025 annual crime report released early this year, police recorded 4,238 homicide cases in 2025, a slight decrease from 4,329 cases reported in 2024.
The victims included 3,397 adult males, 550 adult females, 173 male juveniles, and 148 female juveniles. Of these, 338 victims were killed through hacking, compared to 310 in 2024.
An analysis of data indicates that the motives behind these killings largely stemmed from land disputes, domestic violence, acts of mob justice, family misunderstandings, crimes of passion and business rivalries.
