KISORO - A probationary police constable is receiving treatment at St Francis Hospital Mutolere in Kisoro district after accidentally shooting himself while on duty at Kirwa mines on July 28, 2026.
According to a flash report filed by Sgt Charles Amara, the officer in charge of Kirwa Mine Detachment in Kisoro district, the incident involved Probationary Police Constable Patrick Odongo, who accidentally discharged his firearm, injuring himself in the left leg.
The incident occurred at around 7:00 am on Tuesday, while the officer was taking part in an operation to pursue illegal wolfram miners at Kirwa mines.
Odongo was rushed to St. Francis Hospital Mutolere in Kisoro, where he is receiving treatment. His condition had not been disclosed by press time.
Kirwa mines have in recent months been the scene of ongoing police operations targeting illegal wolfram mining activities in the district.
