Police in Mubende district are hunting for suspected robbers who attacked three villages in Kitenga sub-county, killing a couple, including a pregnant woman, and injuring two other residents in a series of night raids in which mobile phones and a motorcycle were stolen.
The attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday (October 9, 2026), when the assailants reportedly broke into homes, assaulted residents and fled with valuables.
The dead were identified as Ivan Sserwanja, 29, and his pregnant wife, Rose Nakalanzi, 26, coffee dealers who were found murdered at their home in Lukaya village, Kitenga sub-county.
Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, said investigators were pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspects behind the attacks.
At about 10:00am, a child belonging to a neighbour, identified as Rose Birimuye, reportedly went to the couple’s home and called out to them but received no response, despite finding the door open.
The child alerted another neighbour, Loyce Kyarisima, who entered the house and found the couple lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
Police were notified, prompting a homicide team led by the Mubende District Police Commander to visit and examine the scene.
Investigators documented the scene, recorded statements from witnesses and recovered a bloodstained forked hoe believed to be connected to the attack.
The bodies reportedly had multiple deep cut wounds to the head and were conveyed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.
A police canine unit was also deployed to the scene, but heavy rainfall hampered their efforts.
The attackers reportedly stole the couple’s motorcycle, registration number UFZ 589C, a Bajaj Boxer, and two smartphones.
The couple’s occupation as coffee dealers has raised suspicion that the attack could have been economically motivated, although the motive had not been established by the time of reporting.

According to the incident report, Nalukenge had woken up to ease herself when an unidentified man dressed in black struck her on the head with a blunt object.
She raised an alarm, which woke her eldest daughter, who also began calling for help from neighbours.
The assailant fled with three smartphones and one button phone, leaving Nalukenge injured.
She was rushed to Royal Medical Clinic for treatment, and police subsequently visited the scene.
These possibilities remain subject to investigation.

The attack occurred at an undetermined time during the night of October 9.
The assailants reportedly inflicted severe injuries on the couple before fleeing with two mobile phones.
The two residents were among the victims of the attacks that prompted police to intensify investigations across the affected villages.
