Police arrest two suspects over Kajjansi aggravated robbery

WAKISO - Police in Kajjansi have arrested two suspects in connection with an aggravated robbery incident that occurred on August 21, 2026, in Sekiwunga Cell within Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.
The suspects, who were reportedly armed with pangas, attacked occupants at a home in Sekiwunga Cell and robbed them of several items, revealed Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
Police arrested the first suspect, Derrick Kakooza, a motorcycle rider, on August 22, 2026. "Some of the stolen property was recovered from his (Kakooza's) home during a search," Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire said following continued investigations, the second suspect, John Bosco Mukalazi alias Ali Junior, was arrested on August 25, 2026.
"He (Mukalazi) had reportedly been released from Kigo Prison about a month ago, where he had been serving a sentence following his arrest by Kira Police in 2023 in connection with aggravated robbery," Owoyesigyire stated.
He said both suspects are currently detained at Nateete Police Station and will be handed over to Kajjansi Police Division for completion of inquiries and subsequent production before court.

He said both suspects are currently detained at Nateete Police Station and will be handed over to Kajjansi Police Division for completion of inquiries and subsequent production before court.
Owoyesigyire said investigations into the matter were still ongoing.

While releasing the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025 in April this year, Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba said a total of 196,405 cases were reported to Police compared to 218,715 in 2024, which represents a 10.2% reduction. Out of the reported cases, 115,301 were submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, from which 79,291 were taken to Court.
Out of the 32 policing regions in Uganda, KMP South registered the highest number of cases with 13,950, followed by Rwizi with 13,416, KMP North with 13,340, North Kyoga with 12,728 and KMP East with 10,388.
At district/divisional level, Wakiso Police Division registered the highest number of cases with 3,177, followed by Luweero Police Station with 3,123, Mukono Police Division with 2,880, Tororo Police Station with 2,831 and Ntungamo Police Station with 2,825.
