Police arrest driver involved in crash that killed Next Media journalists

Police have arrested John Baptist Kigozi as a suspect involved in the head-on collision in which two Next Media journalists were killed and another injured in Namulanda on the Kampala-Entebbe Road last Friday.
Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye died in the early morning crash while colleague Brian Macona was seriously injured.
Kigozi had been on the run until his arrest in a joint inter-agency operation conducted Thursday night. He will be produced in court to face charges.
Traffic and Safety Directorate spokesperson Michael Kananura said further updates would be provided as the matter progresses.
The head-on crash involved two vehicles, one driven by Kigozi.

“The exact circumstances and cause of the crash remain under investigation," said Kananura.
The fatal crash came in the wake of several road carnages recorded during the week in which many people lost their lives.
Last year, a total of 26,044 road traffic crashes were reported in 2025, compared with 25,107 crashes recorded in 2024, representing an increase of 3.7%.
Of those crashes, 4,602 were fatal, while 13,563 were serious and 7,879 were minor.
