Oyo's burial to have only four tributes

FORT PORTAL — Tooro Kingdom has revealed that only four official speeches will be delivered during the final send-off ceremony of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, ensuring the event remains respectful of the kingdom’s burial traditions that stipulate an early afternoon burial.
The selected speakers are: the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa; King Oyo's sister, Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale; the head of the Babiito royal clan, Charles Kamurasi; and the President Yoweri Museveni or his representative.
Archbishop His Grace Kazimba Mugalu will preside over the funeral service at St John's Cathedral, assisted by Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo, Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese.
Omukama Oyo died in the United States of America on August 27, 2026, at age 34. He was crowned as the 12th King of Tooro Kingdom on September 12, 1995.
Aged three years, he took the throne following the sudden death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.

"In our tradition, we don't bury the king when the son has already crossed to the East," Musinguzi said.
Access to the burial ground at Karambi will be limited to immediate royal family members and top government officials, with other mourners observing from a distance.
Mourners are expected to walk approximately six kilometres from St. John's Cathedral to the burial site, as only a limited number of vehicles not exceeding 30 will be allowed to escort the body.
Richard Rwabuhinga, the co-chair of the burial organising committee, on Wednesday stated that each segment of the program will adhere strictly to the designated time schedules to maintain order and respect for tradition.
To accommodate other mourners wishing to pay their respects, some formal tributes will be delivered at the vigil on Friday, ahead of the burial.
