The Catholic Bishop of Soroti Diocese, Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach, has implored students to work hard, saying victory and success belong to those who are dedicated and industrious.

Bishop Eciru, who led Palm Sunday prayers at Jeressar High School on April 13, urged students to treasure their faith and lives by living in a godly way.

"No sweat, no success and victory. You have to work hard just like Jesus worked hard for us by dying on the cross," Bishop Eciru said.

He condemned students who drop out of school to drink or get married, saying such ungodly behaviour brings shame to God.

"Imagine an educated girl to drop out of school to get married to a man with another woman, and you become a second-hand. An educated boy to drop out of school to go and drink alcohol. These acts bring shame to God," Bishop Eciru emphasised.

Before the homily, Bishop Eciru led a procession from Atoti petrol station to the school, during which students waved palm leaves and sang hymns of praise.
