President Yoweri Museveni has deployed the Butambala Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ahmed Kateregga, as the new Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Masaka City.

Kateregga, a veteran journalist, has replaced Ahmed Washaki, who has been transferred to Moroto district.

The Secretary Office of the President, Yunus Kakande, confirmed the developments in a phone interview with the New Vision.

Washaki is expected to hand over the office to Kateregga on Tuesday.

Kateregga formerly served as deputy RCC for Masaka City in charge of the Kimaanya-Kabonela division.

The mini-reshuffle came after a recent clash between the city mayor, Florence Namayanja, and Washaki over political differences.

Recently, Washaki instructed Police to investigate and prosecute Namayanja and her NUP colleagues over election-related clashes. In reaction, Namayanja described Washaki's conduct as hostile.

On Friday, Washaki said he was ready to serve at any station assigned to him, adding that Moroto was closer to Mbale, his home district.

Kateregga told New Vision that he was ready to serve the people of Masaka city, where the NRM government had significantly invested to transform the area.
