UPDF retires 62 tank officers from Armoured Division in Masaka

The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has retired a total of 62 tank officers at the Armoured Division in Masaka City.
The first phase of the retirees’ sendoff ceremony for 29 low-rank officers was held on Friday, August 7, at Kasijagirwa division headquarters.
The colourful event, presided over by the Rakai RDC, Sarah Kiyimba and the Masaka Resident City Commissioner, Ahmed Washaki, attracted the locals and religious leaders who prayed for the retiring officer.
On behalf of the retiring officers, Warrant Officer Fred Kunihira(RA003324), who joined the army in 1983 as Kadogo, appreciated UPDF support through their professional military journey.
Warning the retirees against criminal acts that may ruin their lives, the Armoured Division Commander, Brigadier General PJ Kajuba, said “nobody should take advantage of your military background to drag you into criminal or unlawful acts. Keep away from bad groups."
He also warned them against conmen and fraudsters who he said could be targeting their retirement package and advised them to wisely utilise their retirement funds to remain happy and joyful with their families.

He asked the retirees to join PDM and other development programs within their communities. He also asked them to remain active and fully utilise the Army SACCO.
“Do not pull out from Army SACCO; it will keep you active in savings and credit schemes. You should also continue to purchase discounted items from the Army shops and seek military health facilities centres and hospitals for health services when you're sick," he added.
Kajuba reminded the retirees to read widely so as to be updated with the latest global issues. He also advised them to give ample time to their wives, children and families.
The Rakai RDC, Sarah Kiyimba, appreciated President Yoweri Museveni and the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhozi Kainerugaba for building and sustaining a professional army that has stabilised the nation and the region.
