A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death after a dispute over sh2,000 during a card game at a bar in Kireku zone, Bweyogerere division, Kira municipality, Wakiso district.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala on Tuesday (August 18) said territorial police at Kira Division were investigating the murder by stabbing, which occurred on August 17, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as Hamza Nuwamanya, a male adult aged 35 years and a resident of Kireku zone, Bweyogerere division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
"It is alleged that on Monday, August 17, 2026, at about 1:00am, the deceased, together with the suspects, was playing cards at Twine’s Bar in Kireku Zone. During the game, the deceased allegedly picked money amounting to sh2,000, belonging to Julius Katabani, which resulted in a quarrel between the two," Kawala said.
She revealed that the owner of the bar reportedly intervened, paid the disputed amount, and ordered the deceased to leave the premises. However, Katabani allegedly followed the deceased outside the bar. A confrontation ensued, during which the deceased reportedly boxed Katabani, who then allegedly stabbed him with a knife.
"The deceased was immediately rushed to Kireku Health Centre for medical attention and was subsequently referred to Mulago Hospital for further management. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital on the afternoon of August 17, 2026," Kawala added.
She said relevant statements had been recorded from witnesses and other persons of interest. The body was conveyed to Kampala City Mortuary, pending postmortem examination.
"Efforts to trace and arrest the key suspect are ongoing. Meanwhile, three suspects have been arrested to assist police with the ongoing investigations," Kawala noted.
