A 63-year-old man allegedly found with human body parts has been remanded to prison in Uganda's central district of Luwero.

Samuel Mutyaba, the accused, is a resident of Kiryanyonza village on the outskirts of Luwero town.

He was arrested alongside co-accused Kevin Sevina last week after Police reportedly searched their shrines following a tip-off and recovered decomposing human body parts.

Savannah regional police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima said investigations are ongoing to establish the identities of the victims, the cause of their death, and possible motives of the accused.

At Luwero Chief Magistrate's Court on Friday (August 8), Mutyaba asked Chief Magistrate Esther Adikini to grant him bail, citing his advanced age.

His request was not granted because the prosecutor was not present.

The court then sent Mutyaba on remand at Butuntumula Prison located in Luwero town council until August 26, when the case will come up for further mention.

Ugandan law prohibits a person being in possession of human body parts and instruments of human sacrifice.

Specifically, the Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice Act criminalises the practice of human sacrifice and related activities.
