Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang has emphasized how the Government is committed to improving infrastructure in the country.

“Government is committed that we will continue to develop sports infrastructure. For example, we have seven facilities we are going to upgrade in Kampala for the purposes of AFCON and we will be usable even after AFCON and Lugogo is part of them.

I call upon other clubs owned by the Government like URA, let them think of having their home ground. During the first inspection at Lugogo, they requested for state of art carpet and floodlights and as government this is going to be handled,” he stated.

Ogwang was alongside KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, KCCA minister Hakim Kizza who represented Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and KCCA FC board members among others.

The first phase which cost sh4.9b covered the primary stand which was near completion. The second phase that will be handled by Sarjan Construction Ltd, the same company that handled the first phase will cost sh10.3b. The phase that will take eight months, will involve building two more floors and thereafter roof it.

It will also have a sitting capacity of 7000 people but the entire stadium will have 11000 capacity once completed, will house dressing rooms, referees, VAR, offices among others.

On her part Kisaka promised support towards the project.

"We are ready to see support you to make sure we have state of art facility. We want this to be the best," she noted.

KCCA FC chairman Eng. Andrew Sserunjogi Mukiibi pointed out that the biggest part of the work will be done in this phase.

“The biggest part of the work on the development of the stadium is going to be done in this phase.

That’s why we decided to let Sarjan Construction Limited continue with the work they had done in the first phase.

They were the lowest but also they had done a good job. Things like finishing the dressing rooms, toilets, restaurants, piping of water, Electrical mechanicals among others are going to be done in this phase,” noted Sserunjogi.
