Judicial Service Commission appoints 25 judicial officers

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed 25 judicial officers to serve in various positions across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, JSC states that the appointments comprise 12 acting chief magistrates who will serve for one year, seven senior principal magistrates’ grade one, four principal magistrates’ grade one and two senior magistrates’ grade one appointed in a substantive capacity.
“The JSC in exercise of its mandate under Article 148 of the Constitution has appointed 25 judicial officers of the lower bench,” reads the statement.
According to JSC senior communications officer Maria Theresa Nabulya, the appointments will enhance the Judiciary’s capacity and improve the administration of justice in the country.
She says the appointment of the judicial officers will go a long way in improving access to justice and reducing case backlog in courts across the country.
The appointed acting chief magistrates are; Irene Nambatya, Tonny Ojok Obonyo, Stella Paculal Okwonga, Timothy Lumunye, Mathew Longoli, Abert Asiimwe, Kenneth Kabiri Gimugu, Rehema Ssebowa Nassozi, Phionah Birungi, Martins Kirya, Joseph Kwesiga and Patricia Ndagire.
The senior principal magistrates grade one includes; Ronald Kamya Nsobya, Sanula Nambozo, Nicholas Aisu, Geroge Wakubona Watyekere, Jalia Basajjabalaba, Paul Khaukha and Winnie Nankya Jatiko.
Principal magistrates grade one are; Jonathan Tiyo, Sumaya Kasule Rutahirwe, Christine Turibamwe and Irene Akello. Senior magistrates’ grade one includes; May Pamela Karamagi and Israel Jacob Osillo Okoth.
