Joint military forces kill 27 ADF rebels, rescue 40 captives

The Ugandan and Congolese armies have killed 27 Allied Democratic Front (ADF) terrorists, rescued 40 captives, and recovered nine guns and assorted ammunition in the ongoing joint offensive code-named Operation Shujaa.

The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Congolese Army (FARDC), in a joint operation, also injured several ADF terrorists according to Major Bilal Katamba, the UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa spokesperson.

In a media handout, which includes pictures, Maj Katamba said the fierce encounter earlier Tuesday, September 24, took place in Biakato and Mambasa territory, 67 km northwest of Beni in Ituri provinces.

He revealed that under the joint operations inside DRC code-named "Operation Shujaa", the forces also recovered nine guns including eight sub-machine guns (SMGs), one PK Machine Gun, six walk-talkies, several rounds of ammunition, magazines and other items including human drugs.

One soldier from the joint forces injured in the leg is admitted at UPDF Muhote Hospital. 

According to the UPDF, the 19 rescued people, most of whom are women and children, are Ugandans with the majority hailing from Busoga sub-region.

ADF terrorists are linked to ISIS and affiliated to the Islamic State Of Central Africa Province (ISCAP).
