Fort Portal roads to close as King Oyo makes final journey home
The closure of roads will be part of security arrangements put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful procession as the kingdom welcomes the body of the king for burial.

FORT PORTAL — Several roads leading into Fort Portal City will be closed tomorrow (Friday, September 4) as security agencies intensify operations ahead of the arrival of the body of the late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The closure of roads will be part of security arrangements put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful procession as the kingdom welcomes the body of the king for burial.
Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Police spokesperson, told New Vision online today (September 3); “For purposes of ensuring complete security of this place, all roads entering Fort Portal city will be closed.”
He said the Kasese-Fort Portal Road will be closed, with motorists diverted from Kacwamba through St. Leo’s Road, Harubaho and Kataraka to Mogus.
On the Bundibugyo Road, Twesige said a diversion will be created from Fuelex petrol station along Bwamba Road through Kabundaire to Mpanga Market, allowing motorists to continue their journeys without accessing the restricted routes.
Twesige said they will conduct the security operation jointly with other security agencies, including the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), the office of the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), and the office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC).

“We are not doing this job alone. We are working with UPDF, DISO, the office of the RCC and other security organs,” he said.
He urged mourners and members of the public attending the king's final journey to remain vigilant and avoid trusting strangers with their personal belongings.
“We appeal to everyone; don't just get a friend when you are not sure. That friend may end up going with your belongings,” Twesige warned.
The security measures come as Tooro Kingdom prepares to receive the body of King Oyo, with thousands of mourners expected to line the routes as the king makes his final journey home.
The body is expected to arrive at Entebbe airport on Friday morning before it is flown by helicopter to Kyegegwa, from where the public viewing is expected to start.
