GANGA - The High Court in Iganga district has received 10 parliamentary election petitions arising from the previous general elections.
Court records indicate that all four losers from Namutumba district, who were all NRM party flag bearers, petitioned their rival counterparts who stood as independents, while two from Bugweri district and one from Iganga, Bugiri, Kaliro and Namayingo district.
In Namutumba district, Emmanuel Maganda Katoko is challenging the election of Persis Namuganza, who is also the lands state minister in charge of urban planning.
Maganda, who was the NRM flag bearer, lost the seat to Namuganza, who stood as an independent after losing the party card, which was given to Maganda after a partial repeat of the primaries, which were challenged by Namuganza.
The details of the petition, which is registered as 08/2026, are yet to be known, but sources close to Maganda cite irregularities during the elections.
