Fasting KCCA staff, needy Muslims receive Iftar packages

The Turkish Embassy in Uganda has donated 250 food packages, also known as Iftar, to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) fasting staff.
The donation was also aimed at helping a selected group of needy Muslims in the city to break their fast during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.

The packages were delivered on March 7, 2025, to City Hall by Ramazan Pehlivanoğlu, who represented the Turkish Ambassador, Mehemet Fatih.
KCCA Executive Director, Hajati Sharifah Buzeki, received the items at the Mayor’s Parlor.
“We are grateful for this support. We had requested the ambassador to assist us with an Iftar package, which has been fulfilled. This gesture is highly appreciated and will go a long way in easing the fasting period for our Muslim brothers and sisters,” Buzeki said to the embassy team.

Each package contained essential food items such as cooking oil, sugar, maize flour, wheat flour, and dates (entende). Buzeki noted that the package was aimed at supporting KCCA’s Muslim staff during Ramadan and expressed her gratitude for the donation.
She also mentioned that the Turkish Embassy has been a strong partner in supporting various initiatives within Kampala. This latest donation, she said, further underscores their commitment to fostering goodwill and solidarity within the community.
The contribution also aligns with KCCA’s efforts to create an inclusive and enabling environment where people can worship freely and observe their religious practices with dignity, Buzeki added.

Pehlivanoğlu extended warm wishes to the Muslim community at KCCA and wished everyone a peaceful and fruitful Ramadan. “We wish you a peaceful and fruitful Ramadan, may God bless you during this holy month,” he said.
Sheila Birungi, KCCA’s director for gender, community services, and production, commended the Turkish Embassy for their support. “This donation ensures that our Muslim staff can go through the Ramadan season with ease. We appreciate this kind gesture and pray for Allah’s blessings upon you,” Birungi said.

KCCA's head of public and corporate affairs, Daniel NuweAbiine, said the food was later distributed to Muslim staff and to Muslims in selected needy communities in various parts of Kampala.
