KAMPALA - Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Saturday, December 27, 2025, said the 2025 festive season, particularly Christmas Day and Boxing Day, was generally calm and well managed across their entire policing area with no major incidents registered.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP deputy spokesperson, said in KMP South, Kajjansi Police Division recorded a fire outbreak in the early hours of December 26th, 2025, at Kitende, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.
"The fire completely destroyed a six-room residential house occupied by a tenant and her family. Nine occupants safely escaped without injuries. A team of detectives, scene of crime officers, and the Fire Brigade promptly responded, secured the scene, and commenced investigations. The cause of the fire is not yet established, though preliminary information points to suspected electrical faults. Inquiries are still ongoing," Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire said across Entebbe Division and other parts of the KMP, several Boxing Day activities, including music concerts, beach events, entertainment venues, and places of worship, attracted large crowds.
These were held at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Aero Beach, Lido and White Sand beaches, Kitubulu Public Beach, Nkumba and Manyago beaches, UWEC and Victoria Mall. All events concluded peacefully under close police supervision.
"Both overt and covert officers were deployed on major routes, beaches, landing sites, and places of entertainment to ensure public safety. Kampala Metropolitan Police worked closely with sister security agencies, including Uganda People's Defence Force (IPDF) and Aviation Police, whose support greatly enhanced security coverage," Owoyesigyire added.
He said only isolated incidents were recorded, including one injury case at Aero Beach, one fatal road accident, one serious accident, and four minor accidents.
"Several suspected phone snatchers, among them a known criminal who operates in areas of Kisenyi, known as Makona, were arrested and detained. Overall, crime and accident levels were significantly lower compared to previous festive seasons," he noted.
He said KMP continues to monitor the situation as the festive season progresses towards New Year celebrations.
"We assure the public that security remains in place across the metropolitan area, and so far, no major incidents have been registered. We thank members of the public for their cooperation and responsible conduct during this festive period, " he stated.
