Police in Masindi District have commenced investigations into a road crash that claimed the life of a man along the Masindi–Kafu Road on polling day.
The accident occurred on January 15, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m. at Kirasa Trading Centre.
The deceased has been identified as Muhamad Mukuza, a resident of Kihamya cell in Kigulya division, Masindi. He was riding a motorcycle, registration number UDY 123W, when he was involved in a head-on collision with a vehicle, registration number UBD 409Y.
According to Steven Tumwine, an eyewitness, the deceased was travelling from the Kafu side towards Masindi town when the collision occurred, leaving him critically injured.
Another eyewitness, Gerald Atugonza, blamed the motorcyclist, saying he had just negotiated a corner on the road while waiting for the vehicle to proceed.
Pascal Talemwa said the victim was critically injured and that it was unclear whether he died on the spot or while being evacuated to the hospital, but noted that he appeared lifeless.
Another eyewitness, who could not be identified by press time, stressed the need for quicker police intervention at accident scenes.
When contacted, Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional CLO, who is also the acting regional police spokesperson, confirmed the accident and said investigations had commenced.
Mugisa said the body of Mukuza is currently at Masindi Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination, while both the vehicle and the motorcycle have been taken to Masindi Central Police Station.
He appealed to drivers and riders to exercise extra caution on the roads and avoid speeding.
