CDF Muhoozi, EU envoy discuss regional security

According to Col Deo Akiiki, the military assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), the meeting focused on regional security issues of mutual concern.

The chief of Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held talks with the head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Uganda, Jan Sadek, over regional security.

The meeting took place at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, Wakiso district on March 6, 2025.

According to Col Deo Akiiki, the military assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), the meeting focused on regional security issues of mutual concern. 

He said on social media platform X that the CDF expressed his gratitude to Sadek for his efforts in strengthening the ties between Uganda and the EU through regular engagements.

The EU envoy commended the UPDF for its pivotal role in promoting regional security and stability. 

He assured Muhoozi of the EU’s continued support and cooperation in addressing shared challenges and advancing peace initiatives in the region.

They held the meeting amid war in the eastern part of the DR Congo where the M23 rebels are fighting the nation’s army. 

The conflict has been a focal point in African politics, with fears of it escalating into a regional crisis.

The DR Congo government, along with the UN officials accuse Rwanda of backing the M23, an accusation which Rwanda strongly denies.
