Police have recovered a motorcycle stolen from a boda boda rider during a violent robbery in Nsangi, Wakiso District, and another motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects in carrying out the attack.
The robbery occurred on the night of July 15, 2026, at around 9:00pm in Muzinda Cell, Nsangi–Kyengera Town Council.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, the victim at about 8:40pm picked up a passenger from Stabex Petrol Station in Nansana, who requested to be transported to Nsangi.
“Upon reaching the area near Nsangi Police Station, the passenger directed the rider to continue via Katereke–Muzinda Road,” Kawala said.
She said that as they travelled through a deserted and bushy stretch near the Mpigi Bypass, the rider encountered two unidentified men who had stretched a rope across the road in what police believe was a carefully planned ambush.
“The passenger immediately grabbed the rider by the neck, enabling the two assailants to pull him off the motorcycle before fleeing with it. The passenger then escaped into the nearby bushes,” Kawala said.
The stolen motorcycle, registration number UMA 895N, was recovered a few hours later after it had been abandoned in Kasenge Zone, Kikajo Ward, Kyengera Town Council.
Police also recovered another black motorcycle, registration number UDJ 362B, which investigators believe was used by the suspects during the robbery.
Kawala said detectives have since launched investigations to identify and apprehend all those involved.
“Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify, trace, arrest and prosecute all the suspects behind this aggravated robbery,” she said.
The latest incident adds to a growing trend in which criminal gangs disguise themselves as passengers before luring boda boda riders to isolated locations, where accomplices lie in wait to attack and steal their motorcycles.
Police have advised boda boda riders to exercise extra caution, particularly when transporting passengers to secluded areas at night, and to promptly report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
