Anti-corruption unit halts sh1.5b payment to Chinese contractor

“This is because investigations have been initiated into this matter and will be expeditiously undertaken. Therefore, in order to safeguard public funds and preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations, we request that Arua City immediately halts the intended payment of sh1.5b to China Railway Seventh Group Construction Company until investigations have been concluded and appropriate guidance is issued to Arua City,” the letter reads.

In a letter dated June 24, 2026, addressed to the Arua City Clerk, the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and senior presidential advisor on anti-corruption, Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, directed the city authorities to immediately suspend the payment.
